Pickleball Court Coating Project in Fort McMurray, Alberta
Four pickleball courts in Fort McMurray were created from an outdoor rink with durable coatings and precise striping by EverLine Coatings.
As interest in pickleball continued to grow, a community facility in Fort McMurray began feeling the pressure to provide dedicated court space for players of all ages and skill levels. What started as casual games and temporary setups quickly evolved into consistent demand for properly lined, regulation courts that could support leagues, lessons, and open play.
An existing outdoor hockey rink offered a strong foundation in terms of size and location, but it was not designed for pickleball. Proper spacing, accurate line placement, and durable coatings were essential to ensure safe play and long-term performance.

Converting an Outdoor Hockey Rink into Four Pickleball Courts
The project was awarded through a tender process in a fairly remote location. With the site located roughly five hours from the shop, logistics were a major consideration from the start. EverLine Coatings was selected and prepared to take on both the travel and the scope of work.
Beyond distance, weather quickly became the primary obstacle. Summer conditions brought heavy rain, wind, and sudden thunderstorms that disrupted application schedules. At one point, standing water inside the rink required quick thinking and specialized equipment to remove it before coatings could be compromised. With no consistent forecast to rely on, the team paused the project for two weeks and returned when conditions allowed for proper completion.
Professional Athletic Court Resurfacing and Line Striping
The transformation followed a detailed multi-step coating system. An adhesion promoter was applied first to ensure proper bonding. This was followed by two coats of resurfacer mixed with sand to build texture and durability.
The pickleball courts received two coats of blue and two coats of green for clear court distinction, while two coats of grey were applied across the full rink surface. Crisp white court lines completed the layout, defining four regulation pickleball courts within the former hockey space. To streamline the process, coating materials were shipped directly to the site, helping maintain efficiency despite the remote setting.
Delivering Durable Community Courts Despite Weather Delays
While the extended timeline caused understandable frustration, the client remained supportive throughout the process. The finished courts now provide a dedicated recreational space that reflects the growing demand for pickleball in the community.
EverLine Coatings was proud to complete the project and looks forward to future collaborations. If your facility is considering athletic court resurfacing or a multi-use space conversion, learn more and request a quote today.
